WISE Poster

An infrared image of M16, the Eagle Nebula, taken by the ESA/ISO satellite.

WISE: Mapping the sky in infrared light

The new WISE poster features an artist rendering of the WISE spacecraft, superimposed over an image of the Milky Way galaxy that was constructed from data collected by the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) and the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE). The poster explains that WISE will capture invisible, infrared light from the Universe to create a catalog of hundreds of millions of astronomical objects, as well as find the nearest stars to the Sun, and brown dwarfs too cool to be detected in visible light.
