Nahide Craig - Astronomer, Lead
of WISE Education and Public Outreach
A research astronomer
with 10 years' involvement in the EUVE mission and the SSL Experimental
Astrophysics Group, Dr. Craig has worked for both the EUVE and the
ORFEUS missions, specializing in the ground-based observations for
the studies of late-type stars, cataclysmic variables, white dwarfs,
and the local interstellar medium. During the last five years she
has been working as Education and Outreach Scientist and Manager
of the SEGway Program at Center for Science Education at Space Sciences
Laboratory. SEGway is a national consortium of science museums, research
institutions, and educators working together to adapt the latest
NASA scientific research for students, teachers, and the general
public via the Internet. SEGway program serves as an infrastructure
for education and outreach materials for NASA's RHESSI, FAST, CHIPS,
STEREO/IMPACT, THEMIS and WISE space science satellite missions.
Dr. Craig is the lead Scientist, Director and Manager of numerous
UCB mission E/PO efforts, including the RHESSI, FAST, STEREO/IMPACT
and THEMIS Missions. Dr. Craig is responsible for designing and implementing
overarching themes for K-12 science education and contributes to
the dissemination and expansion of the E/PO programs at national
level.
Bryan Méndez - Astronomer, E/PO Specialist
Dr. Méndez received
his Ph.D. in Astophysics from UC Berkeley in 2002, his research interests were
in extragalactic astronomy and large scale structure in the Universe. Currently,
Dr. Méndez is an Education and Public Outreach Specialist for the SEGway program
at UC Berkeley's Center for Science Education at the Space Sciences Laboratory.
He creates classroom lessons for grades K-12, in collaboration with teachers
and the E/PO team. He also organizes and conducts professional development experiences
for teachers around space science topics. As an E/PO specialist working on NASA
programs such as RHESSI, CHIPS, and the NVO, he leverages efforts from multiple
missions that are studying everything from the Sun to the Universe itself.
Amy Shutkin - Administrative Analyst
Amy Shutkin will assist with the E/PO budget and provide overall administrative support. She will schedule the E/PO partnership meetings, keep a master calendar, update the ledgers and track the Mission master schedule. She will also help coordinate the logistics of the teacher workshops, format and print classroom materials, and edit and format web-based activities and text.
