Scattered throughout the region you can see small clusters of bright red objects, especially near the upper left portion of the image. These are likely Young Stellar Objects, or YSOs, surrounded by cocoons of dense gas and dust.
Rho Ophiuchi
The Rho Ophiuchi cloud is found rising above the plane of the Milky Way and is one of the nearest star-forming regions to Earth.

The green colored cloud at the center of the image is the emission nebula SH 2-235.
SH 2-235
In infrared light, NASA’s WISE reveals SH 2-235 to be a huge star formation complex.

Sh2-205
This image of the star-forming region, commonly called Sh2-205, was taken by NASA’s WISE.

The bright figure at the center of the image is the Circinus Galaxy. At the center of the image, a great green "S" shows the extended spiral arms of the galaxy.
Circinus Galaxy
There’s something special going on in the nearby Circinus galaxy, as revealed by this image from NASA's WISE.

A star field with small columns gas stretching towards the center of the void.
LBN 211.91-01.37
NASA’s Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, or WISE, captured this image of a star-forming cloud of dust and gas located in the constellation of Monoceros.

The bright star at the center of the image is Alpha Camelopardalis. This supergiant star is surrounded on one side by an arc-shaped cloud of dust and gas.
Alpha Camelopardalis
NASA’s WISE captured this image of the star Alpha Camelopardalis speeding through the sky like a motorcyclist zipping through rush-hour traffic.

The multicolored clouds make up the BFS 29 reflection nebula. The illumination is most likely due to the star CE-Camelopardalis.
CE-Camelopardalis
NASA’s WISE captured this colorful image of the reflection nebula BFS 29 surrounding the star CE-Camelopardalis.

A starfield with many small, blue stars and a few larger, brighter stars, and green wisps.
Veil Nebula
This large mosaic image from NASA’s Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, or WISE, features the wreckage of an exploded star.

An image of asteroids in Virgo
Asteroids in Virgo
This image shows four galaxies in the Virgo cluster: Messier 59, Messier 60, NGC 4647, and NGC 4638.

WISE’s final picture shows thousands of stars in a patch of the Milky Way Galaxy.
Last Light
On the morning of February 1st, 2011, NASA’s Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, or WISE, took its last snapshot of the sky.

This collage shows those 20 new comets all together in a kind of family portrait.
Comets WISE
During its one-year mission, NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, or WISE, mapped the entire sky in infrared light.

Two distinct galaxies are present in this image. The top galaxy, Messier 81, is shown as bright orange-yellow. The bottom galaxy, Messier 81, is shown as bright light blue.
M 81 and M 82
This image from NASA’s WISE features two stunning galaxies engaged in an intergalactic dance.

The multicolored clouds in the field of stars makeup the Lambda Centauri Nebula.
IC 2944
This image from WISE is an infrared view of a star forming cloud in our Galaxy called the Lambda Centauri nebula.

The concentrated cluster of stars and dust located in the center of the image makes up the Triangulum Galaxy.
M 33
This image captured by NASA’s WISE shows of one of our closest neighboring galaxies, Messier 33.

The violet and cyan colored clouds make up the Jellyfish Nebula.
IC 443
Also known as the Jellyfish nebula, IC 443 is particularly interesting because it provides a look into how stellar explosions interact with their environment.
