WISE Brown Dwarfs Simulation

WISE Brown Dwarf Simulation
The WISE brown dwarf data simulation in the solar neighborhood. The WISE brown dwarfs, labeled in red, are shown with the known nearby stars, labeled green. Distance to the nearest star, Proxima Centauri, and perhaps a closer brown dwarf, are shown relative to the 0.8 light-year Oort Cloud sphere in yellow.

WISE is partnering with the American Museum of Natural History and the Hayden Planetarium to visualize the Universe that WISE will reveal to us. Using a brown dwarf data simulation provided by WISE team members, we have integrated these data into Hayden's Digital Universe Atlas, a 3-D atlas of the Universe for your computer, thereby demonstrating what the solar neighborhood might look like once WISE has completed its mission. As WISE data comes in, we will be poised to quickly integrate them into the Atlas, providing a 3-D context of these data relative to the known Universe.

Launch Quicktime:
640 x 480 (25MB)*

Launch MPEG:
640 x 480 (30MB)

` Download the Digital Universe and WISE data from the Hayden Planetarium to explore on your own.

* The video utilizes Apple's H.264 codec. If the file does not play on your system, please install the latest version of Quicktime.
